Mustad: mai appesi i propri sogni al chiodo..

Da grande appassionato del genere umano e della sua capacità di far funzionare con ingegno le qualità manuali ed i pollici opponibili di cui la natura l'ha dotato, mi sono trovato spesso per musei un pò in giro per tutta l'Europa a fissare l'oggetto che più di tutti testimonia quanto la nostra passione sia radicata dentro la specie e vecchia come noi stessi. Manufatti di questi accessori ve sono in tutto il mondo. Ovunque vi fossero pesci, gli esseri umani hanno intuito quale fosse la corretta maniera di catturarli, anche se a migliaia di chilometri di distanza, anche se in continenti differenti. Curvi, sporchi e selvaggi i nostri "colleghi" preistorici hanno utilizzato le medesime tecniche, gli stessi materiali, rispondendo ad uno schema di costruzione istintivo, come se l'oggetto fosse insito in noi, come se facesse parte della nostra primordialità, di quella zona oscura della nostra mente, per dirla in linguaggio informatico una sorta di ROM, memoria a sola lettura, ma ad accesso involontario, nella quale sono scritte le regole prime della natura.

L’azienda passa, un decennio più tardi, al genero Ole Mustad che le dà anche il nome noto a tutti i pescatori del mondo ma legandola a prodotti ancora lontani dalla pesca. Da un Mustad all’altro la vera e propria produzione di ami inizia intorno alla seconda metà dell’800 grazie al figlio di Ole, Hans, che trasformando la società in Mustad & Son. ne avvia la costruzione artigianale e la distribuzione affiancandole ad una operazione di marketing in tutto il mondo e ponendo l’azienda un gradino più in alto rispetto alla poca concorrenza presente. La spinta definitiva al decollo si ha con l’introduzione del processo meccanizzato grazie ad un macchinario brevettato da Mathias Topp in grado di stampare in automatismo una quantità sino ad allora impensabile di prodotti finiti ed il cui funzionamento resterà ispiratore per tutte le macchine fabbricate con questo scopo sino ad oggi.

L’irrequietezza e la continua ricerca di nuovi sbocchi e mercati, propria delle grandi aziende, non cessa mai così come la voglia di migliorare i propri prodotti..
